A renovation project in Yoyogi-Hachiman designed around the concept of “a home that cultivates time.” People form deep attachments to the things they care for, and those attachments enrich everyday life. For this home, we thoughtfully selected materials and craftsmanship that deepen in character over time, growing in value alongside the people who live here.

The floors and counters feature timber with rich natural grain patterns and live edges, fully embracing the unique individuality of solid wood to highlight its one-of-a-kind expressions. Artisanal craftsmanship is woven into every detail—from a custom nook bench cradled within an arched wall to built-in shelving constructed using traditional, hardware-free “ari-okuri” (sliding dovetail) joinery. Furthermore, we incorporated a 1940s British antique door and repairable fabrics from MITTAN, designed to be used and mended over a lifetime.

Caring for and continuing to use things in daily life nurtures deep attachment, and these accumulated moments become the true value of a home. We aimed to create a space that truly embodies WYLC’s philosophy: “A Life Embraced by Enduring Affection.”
