TSUKI is designed to fully express the inherent beauty of solid wood furniture.
Generously thick solid-wood components are used throughout, allowing the material’s presence and character to be felt with clarity and restraint.
While the form presents the wood in its most honest state, it is shaped to respond naturally to the free and intuitive movements of everyday life.
The curved profile revealed beneath the seat evokes the image of a crescent moon suspended in the sky—an association that gave rise to the name TSUKI.
“Our focus was on how each craftsperson’s individual skills and sensibilities could be translated into the form of furniture. Elements such as carefully carved plane marks and the refined finishing of the end grain—traces of meticulous handwork—were consciously converted into a clear design language. At the same time, the chair was sized with everyday usability in mind, making it well suited even for compact urban living spaces.”
— Designer, Kensaku Oshiro
“The seat is shaped using an adapted version of yokogezuri, a traditional woodworking technique in which the surface is carved with a four-directional curved plane. While expressing the depth and intensity of handcraft, the subtle surface undulations also function as a natural anti-slip texture. By finely adjusting the inclination and curvature of the seat, we aimed to support a stable posture and create a sense of lasting comfort as the body settles into the chair.”
